Length Guide
*Finger Loop Size Guide

The finger loop is meant to be snug and like all leather will have some break-in to your specific finger. It is placed on the middle finger between the first and second knuckles. For more information on using the finger loop, view the "How to grip video" here.

There are 3 general finger loop sizes. An exact fit, like a ring, is not necessary:

Small - Slimmer fingers. Smaller ring sizes, and gloves. An example might be a smaller person or younger people.

Medium - Average fingers. Average ring sizes, and gloves.

Large - Thicker fingers. Generally, you're a big dude.

If you would like to measure for finger loop size you can use the following guide:

Use a flexible measuring tape or cut out a piece of paper/string to wrap around your finger, mark the paper/string, and measure afterward. Measure around your middle finger between the first and second knuckles.

Small  53mm and below, or 2 1/16 inch and below

Medium  54mm - 62mm, or 2 1/8 inch - 2 7/16 inch

Large  63mm and above, or 2 1/2 and above

Note that a small leather flap is located inside each finger loop. If the loop feels too loose, you can position the flap on top of your finger and between your finger and the cord to provide a slightly tighter grip. The added tightness this flap can provide is very small and should not be used to "size up" your decision on the finger loop. When not needed for extra grip, the flap lies flat inside the loop.

Control, Precision, Comfort

You won't need to develop calluses, fear the rock slipping out, or struggle to hold on to the sling. It is great for both feel and precision, which is unique in the slinging world.

  • Internal Taper

At first glance, the Pan sling may look like a single-strand sling but it is not. Dual internal cord tapered stiffness gives the Pan Sling unique advantages for both projectile feel and sling control. Thick woven slings have a reduced projectile feel, particularly for lighter projectiles. Single-strand slings have a great projectile feel but have less sling control. The unique nature of the Pan Sling provides both feel and control across a broader range of projectile weights while maintaining a fast, narrow-diameter sling. It is described as a precise sling by those familiar with slinging. And it does this while maintaining its compact profile for easy carry.

  • Grip Confidence

A light yet secure grip is one key to good slinging and the leather release tab on the Pan sling is the optimal size, shape, and material to deliver. And unlike a knot grip, you won't need to develop calluses. The leather release tab seats comfortably between the index finger and thumb. You will feel confident on day one about your ability to hold on to this sling.

Combined with the gripping finger loop, you won't find a sling that is better designed to feel as secure and controllable.

  • Finger Loop

One of our favorite features of the Pan sling is the gripping finger loop. It allows secure throwing with a natural open-hand release and remains comfortable for long periods. It is made of two pieces of leather to minimize hole stretch and integrates a thin tab of leather between the finger and cord. When we switch over to other slings that use a fixed loop size we usually throw the sling off our hand until we adjust by curling our finger to trap the loop. The Pan sling is a true open-hand release sling and inspires a natural throwing feel and confidence.

The mini carabiner keeps the loop centered on top of the finger and has a secondary use for sling carry.

Durability

Slings are subject to a considerable amount of wear and the Pan sling was designed to be one of the most durable ever made. So if you want to sling more than tennis balls, the Pan sling is ready to go with you.

  • Protection

Rock abrasion in the pouch and on the release cord can damage a sling very quickly. The Pan sling may be the most abrasion-resistant sling out there. A thin but incredibly durable piece of leather protects the leading edge of the cord. On the cord itself, we applied a carbide-enhanced material that actually started to grind the rock down in our testing. It won't last forever but it will extend sling life many times longer than exposed cordage. Check out our test video here.

  • No Knots

Knots create high points that wear quickly and they can be unreliable. We found splices to be a much better fit for slings. We use un-gutted lock splices with lock whipping on the Pan sling. Splices are lower profile, stronger, and won’t come undone. It also provides a tight connection and flexes with the pouch. It takes much longer than tying knots and a bit of patience but we think you'll agree that the results are worth it.

  • Leather

Leather is the best material for a sling pouch, bar none. Throwing rocks can be very abrasive, and pouches that are made with man-made or natural fibers will not last as long as a leather pouch. However, durability is not the only advantage of a leather pouch. Leather provides better projectile security and better projectile handling (cupping and grip) for both light and heavy projectiles than braided pouches. We take the sling pouch seriously and we don't use off-the-shelf leather. From premium full-grain vegetable-tanned leather we select our thickness and then hand-cut, edge sand, tool, dye, and use our in-house hot stuffing process. Hot stuffing impregnates the leather with waxes and oils to prepare the sling for tough conditions. It looks great and was made specifically for slinging.

Portability

Slings are beautifully simple and incredibly powerful for their compact size. The Pan sling takes sling portability to a new level.

  • Carry Tools

The carry tools are custom-designed and 3D printed for the Pan sling. They provide some of the best options for compact carry and storage. Coming in about the same size as a tennis ball, the Reel is a simple and compact go-to method for sling carry and storage. The Little Pan is even more compact and turns the Pan sling into a pocket-friendly world traveler or a keychain accessory.

  • Adjustable

Aside from the comfort and throwing security that the release tab provides, there is another feature built in. The end of the release cord can be adjusted. This allows you to shorten the cord several inches and provides the adjustment needed to wrap the sling around various sizes (like your wrist). The mini carabiner on the finger loop can then be connected to the end of the release cord securing the sling in place.

  • Lays Flat

The finger loop of the Pan sling also has a function beyond finger grip and comfort. The finger loop can open, lay flat, and slide down the cord. It can then wrap with the cordage which increases overall compactness with no bulky loop hanging off the sling. And with a mini carabiner at your disposal, you will find several ways to secure the sling around things.

You Will NEVER REGRET This Choice #slanglife

I don't know about you, but I've been throwing rocks since I can remember. When I first came across The PAN, I knew it would be exactly what I hoped it would be. The build quality is insane and throwing is so intuitive. I throw tennis balls against a wall when i can't go out and throw in the wild. I keep my gorgeous pan sling in my backpack and pull it out all the time. Kids love it. My friends are obsessed too. It's almost a totemic object that harkens back to being a kid, feeling free, and getting into trouble. And the zombies will stand NO chance. Really than you Pan people! Kel

Perfect analog tool for hunting, survival, or just plain fun!

I love stuff like slingshots, throwing knives and axes, recurve bows, and blowguns. The reason is that they take very little to feed and maintain, and are very simple analog platforms that will work when the power goes out and the infrastructure fails. This sling is right up there with those items in my list. I'm not very good with it yet but I know I will be. I picked up bullwhip cracking a few years ago and it didn't take long to get good with it. I have a tendency to do well with these types of tools. Anyway, I can see this sling generating a lot of power and accuracy. It is well made and when you inspect it you can see the research and trial and error that went into perfecting the design. I appreciate the splice instead of knots application and I can see where the knots would fail. I would however, like to see one made with all natural hides and fibers, no 550 cord. All in all, great job! I'll be buying again!

I got it!

Made very professionally, durable and dare I say - esthetic! The rock doesn't fly in a right direction yet, but I would blame someone else, what to sling- feel like I was born with it, bottom line - definitely recommend!

Excellent Quality and Service

This is my first sling and I'm still learning how to use it properly, but so far I am very impressed with the build quality. Beyond the quality of the sling, the customer service is exceptional. I had a couple changes I wanted to make to my order (changing color and adding a cracker) and they were very helpful and quick with making those changes. I'm looking forward to getting better with this sling, and if I ever need/want another I'll absolutely be back.

Quality without compromising function

Designed to be used, but almost too beautiful to take down Goliath. Worth its weight in gold.
