Having tried to make and use a sling before I thought I had some background. I first saw ads for the Pan sling and I was inspired to try again, but not inspired enough to buy one. I quickly whipped together a sling out of some paracord and a couple knots. I didn't follow any youtube tutorials because they generally fall under the category of "macrame" instead of a functional sling. I practiced and practiced slinging and couldn't really sling much farther than I could throw a stone bare handed. So I finally decided to order a sling.
My degree is in manufacturing; let me say that this was done the hard way. No short cuts are taken, as it is evident that care and attention we taken in the design of all the components. The materials cost alone isn't that much, but you're paying for thoughtful design and excellent craftmanship. There truly are no knots (unless you include the cracker), and everything has an excellent fit/finish. I don't even want to think about the effort involved in the splices into what appears to be paracord. Small things like the little pan being held in place by a compliant mechanism, the consistent melt finish on the string ends, or the little leather protector at the eye splice show great attention to detail. With the cracker installed It took me about an hour to match my best hand throwing distance. Add another hour to get semi-consistent launches. The stiffness and snap provide good feedback and did a lot more to improve my form than my "string with knots".
You can absolutely get into slings on a (literal) shoestring budget, and at some point everyone should try making their own. The Pan sling, however, saves a bunch of time and helps with likelihood of success, making it worth the premium.
My personal recommendation for practice projectiles are foam practice golf balls, they're a little more dense than the included training ball and illustrate curve very well.

Pretty new to slings but I can tell you that this is one of, if not the best slings in terms of quality, construction and style.

I grew up in Alaska during the 60's & 70's and around 12 years old I remember asking my dad to make me a sling (because was so horrible), and he made it from long crusty workboot laces and a thin blue diamond-shaped leather pouch... now I was in business! :-D
That thing lasted for years and taught me how to shoot an apple out of the neighbor's tree to what I wanted in a more professional model some day...
Well, I'm 62 now and some day finally came when I recently saw a video of a young man with a handsome professional looking sling hitting target after target using a sling from Pan Slings... I promptly order three different slings and within a few days my order arrived in perfect condition and very well packaged.
I must say, these are very beautiful and quite sturdy too... not in a stiff and clunky way, but stout and very well made. I am thoroughly impressed , and back in business once again!

This sling is awesome, the quality of the build and stitching is awesome. It even includes a card that shows you how to set it up, how to throw, and how to take care of it. You can tell Pan really cares about the experience. I can't wait to start slinging!
I recently bought a sling and I am very impressed. The sling is of very high quality and the customer service is equally good. I found the tutorials on the site extremely helpful. I am a beginner and I was able to start slinging quite accurately after a very short amount of time. I would highly recommend pan slings.
Super nice sling, hard to even say it's overpriced even though it's so expensive because the detail in the design and the fact that it comes maintenance equipment And two different carrying devices indicates the meticulous quality of it. It's way easier to buy a sling versus just having to learn to make it yourself, But I think a Big part of slinging is to learn how to make a sling, And I am not sure yet but the pan sling seems strained when slinging heavy rocks
This is real quality craftsmanship! It comes out of the box with an impressive crispness. After a nany hours of practice it shows zero sign of wear! I will order another!
Perfect gift for my son. I couldn’t ask for a more complete yet simple kit for the beginner. The appearance, quality and craftsmanship are excellent, especially at this price.
This is my first sling so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I will say that it is very well made and thought out. I’ve been practicing daily since receiving and the features to prevent wear are strategically placed and I can tell already this will extend the life of the cordage and connections immensely. I also purchased a selection from other vendors as well to compare and see what I preferred in a sling. Hands down the style of “basket” on the Pan sling is my favorite. Not too bulky. Would recommend for anyone. Also, I purchased a cracker as well. I’m not quite to the point where I can get it to make that signature sound, but it’s holding up well to my efforts.
